Some other western authors
By "other", I mean other than by Louis L'amour.
Ralph Compton
I have read two of his books and probably won't read any more.
I like the stories for the most part, but he has too much R and X rated
stuff for my taste. We don't need or want that.
The rubbish on the cover says, "If you like L'Amour, you'll love Compton".
I don't agree. Maybe if you cleaned the books up -- and it wouldn't take much.
William Johnstone
I like these. A few times he edges into R rated territory, but not nearly
so bad as Compton. What I do like about Johnstone is a sense of humor.
You get reminded frequently that "this is a story and we are having fun".
The titles seem selected for shock value and don't necessarily have much
to do with the stories. I am told that publishers play this game, and
I suspect it is at play here. A snappy title sells a book.
