Fedora and printer setup
You can netcat to port 9100 as I have long done, but there are advantages
to working with the actual printer software on Fedora.
- su
- dnf install system-config-printer
- system-config-printer
This brings up a GUI, click on "Add", then "add network printer".
When I did this there was significant delay while probing went on,
then I was offered a menu of choices. One was "copier" on port 9100.
I selected that and it began "searching for drivers" -- spooky in
the way this is like Windows -- and ultimately it crashed with some
python GUI error and I had to kill the window -- but it had done what
was required. When I type "lpq" I get the following.
lpq
Ricoh-MP-C2503 is ready
no entries
And now "lpr" works, which is what I want.
Not bad.
