The Ruby Language
I have been working with Ruby since 2002 or so, and it has
become my favorite programming language alongside of C.
Perl works great, but is quirky.
Tcl is wretched and miserable, and no more needs be said.
Python is fine I suppose, and has become wildly popular.
There are some Python libraries that would persuade me to
use the language, but for general things I always use Ruby.
I can't say enough good things about the "pickaxe book".
(Programming Ruby by Dave Thomas).
There is also a fine book by David Flanagan and
Yukihiro Matsumoto (who wrote ruby).
I think the pickaxe book is the best introduction, then
move on to "The Ruby Programming Language" by Flanagan and
Matsumoto.
