Fortran 90
I am an old fortran hack from back in the days of FORTRAN-IV.
Along the way, I did a lot with RATFOR (which was a very cool
preprocessor, aimed at making fortran as much like C as possible).
I completely missed fortran 77 (and who is complaining), and now
am helping out with a project using fortran 90. This is (as usual)
my own set of notes to help me along with what is new.
A nice set of notes on
Fortran 90 for the Fortran 77 Programmer is available online.
Here are some highlights:
- Use the ! for comments (and OK inline).
- Use the & at the end of a line for continuation.
- Still case insensitive.
- implicit none
- integer :: i, j, k
- real :: x, y, z
- do i=1,10 .... end do
- if ... end if
- select case (var) ... end select
- module is an improved replacement for block data
